This rare RAAK C1608 'Schelpdier' Wall Lights by Piet Cohen are a stunning and increasingly hard-to-find pair of original RAAK C1608 "Schelpdier" (Shell) wall lights, designed by Piet Cohen for RAAK Amsterdam in the 1970s. These sculptural fixtures are a perfect example of Dutch mid-century modern design, combining organic forms with beautifully diffused indirect lighting.

Crafted from heavy cast aluminium with a dark textured exterior and white interior, the layered shell design creates a warm, atmospheric glow while making a striking statement even when unlit.

Raak Amsterdam was a Dutch lighting manufacturer founded by Carel O. Lockhorn in 1954. Lockhorn established the company at Prinsengracht 777 in Amsterdam. Raak adopted the slogan "Illuminated Architecture." In the mid-20th century, Raak was one of the first companies to break away from the established order by making extensive use of glass and metal. Through the use of these materials, they produced lighting with a highly modern and futuristic aesthetic. The often distinctive light fixtures were largely manufactured by the FAK metalworks factory in Kortenhoef. Raak Amsterdam lighting is renowned for its high quality and serves as a true eye-catcher in any interior. After several acquisitions, the company finally ceased operations in 2011.
