E. Knudsen set of 4 dining chairs

This is a rare and complete set of four dining chairs,

model 47, designed by E. Knudsen and produced by Jensen & Lykkegaard

in Denmark during the 1950s.

The chairs frames are very sturdy, and made in solid oak. All chairs feature woven cane backs and have been newly reupholstered in a premium green leather.

The frames are composed of subtly contoured legs and stretchers, with elegant curves and sculptural connections between vertical and horizontal members. The backrest has a slight rearward angle and a woven cane insert framed by rounded uprights, contributing to both comfort and breathability. The seat has been reupholstered with a lightly clouded natural leather, in a deep green tone, and the padding follows the organic contour of the solid wood frame, maintaining the original profile of the design. The design of model 47 reflects the Danish mid-century modernist emphasis on craftsmanship, material honesty, and ergonomic refinement. The use of woven cane and contrasting upholstery gives the chairs a balanced aesthetic between traditional craftsmanship and modern functionalism.

Jensen & Lykkegaard were a respected Danish manufacturer known for high-quality woodworking and collaborations with notable designers of the era.

Each chair measures 47.5 cm in width, 50 cm in depth, and 94 cm in height, with a seat height of 45 cm. In imperial units, this corresponds approximately to 18.7 inches wide, 19.7 inches deep, 37 inches high, and a seat height of 17.7 inches.
