Hans-Agne Jakobsson is a Swedish interior decorator and furniture designer, he was born in Gotland in 1919. Jakobsson completed a carpentry apprenticeship before moving on to study architecture. He is best remembered for his adventurous light fittings and his ability to utilise unique angles and materials in his work. Hans-Agne Jakobsson's work was heavily influenced by modern Scandinavian designers such as Alvar Aalto, he was also inspired by Paul Henningsen's 'non dazzle' lighting.

Although Jakobssen designed various types of furniture as well, he always received greater attention for his lighting. He not only mastered the direction but also the colour of light and by experimenting with a wide range of materials such as brass, iron, glass and wood shavings he become on of the most influential designers of the golden age of Scandinavian design. His designs are known for their hidden bulbs and streamlined ornamentation, which created diffused, muted lighting.

Hans-Agne Jakobsson received international critical acclaim for his work which, decades later, continues to inspire designers worldwide.
