The Swedish sculptor and industrial designer Sonja Katzin (1919–2014) was a key figure in Scandinavian modernism. She was born in Örebro and trained at various Swedish art academies, where she was taught by Lena Börjeson, among others. Katzin excelled in versatility: her sculptures are characterized by abstract shapes, ranging from intimate, small statues to large public monuments. Her talent did not go unnoticed; contemporaries praised her work and she won several prizes, including the cultural fair of the city of Stockholm. She also made history as one of the few successful female lighting designers of her generation.
